Team Vision Forward

View the Insights Developed and Recommendations Made to the Church Council and Congregation
If you couldn’t or didn’t attend one of the Zoom calls where Team Vision Forward  (TVF) shared what they did, how they did it and the insights/recommendations made to Church Council and the congregation – here’s your chance.  and view the presentation below (with audio commentary and explanations) documenting how TVF is trying to help NUMC discern:
  * What is God calling NUMC to be and to do going forward?
  * What are our individual, community and congregational needs, and how will NUMC meet them?

What did we Hear? What did we Discern? What did we Recommend?

For six months in 2021, Team Vision Forward (TVF: Bruce Yost, Lloyd Massey, Lys Murray, Kevin Smith and Addie Spicer) interviewed 150+ NUMC and community members, UD faculty/staff and various churches and organizations in the Greater Newark area to get input:

  • What is God calling NUMC to be and do going forward?
  • What are our individual, community and congregational needs, and how will NUMC meet them?

We deeply appreciated receiving open and honest feedback on these questions. It was quite interesting, and thought-provoking! We sorted through this considerable amount of information to find themes and trends, and came up with several insights & recommendations as to how NUMC members can be more relational in our interactions with each other and those we serve (an outcome envisioned when we started). Relational interactions will allow us to make more of an impact in the greater Newark community, and will guide NUMC thinking about our priorities over the next 1-2 years and our response to the challenge posed on Laity Sunday back in October: “Lead us to reach beyond these walls, providing your light to others”.

In November, TVF presented its insights and recommendations to Church Council. We are excited to share with you (via Zoom) an abbreviated version of that presentation (lasting about 30 minutes, plus time for questions/discussion); presentation dates and times (EST) are:

  • Wednesday, February 16, 7pm
  • Saturday, February 19, 4pm
  • Tuesday, February 22, 4:30pm
