On October 8th, 2025  Newark UMC voted to  transition from a “Church Council” to a Pilot Simplified Board format for leadership. The Simplified Board (pilot program) is a new, stream-lined model of administrative governance for Newark United Methodist Church.

The Simplified Board is designed to be both a more centralized decision-making body as well as an attempt to develop more ministry collaboration, both internally and externally. There is NO change in NUMC’s principles or beliefs, nor individual Team/Committee structures and their decision-making “rights”.
