Growing in Christ as children

Children are welcome in all aspects of life here at NUMC.  Those in Kindergarten through Grade 6 attend the first part of the 9:30 a.m. worship service, participate in the Children’s Message, and depart the worship space for their Sunday school workshops.

During the program year, there are several family-friendly evening worship services where children have the opportunity to actively engage in leading worship. Those who choose to join either the Carol Choir (Grades 1–3) or the Crusader Choir (Grades 4–6) participate in the Royal Church Music School in America program. Children learn how to match pitch and read musical notation, memorize important parts of the liturgy (parts of the worship service), and earn color ribbons for each new level they achieve.

GREEN (God’s Really Energetic, Enthusiastic, Newark) Team is a pre-teen, starter youth group for children in Grades 4–6 (inclusive of the summer following sixth grade). GREEN Team began in the summer of 2003, and our first crop of 4th-grade team members are now beginning to graduate from college.  Team members learn how to be helpers in the younger Sunday school classes, and many also serve as worship leaders for the 9:30 a.m. summer worship service. GREEN Team meets periodically for fellowship during the program year and in the summer takes the occasional field trip.  GREEN Team members also engage in various mission activities year-round.
