The Lectionary is a calendar and table of suggested scripture readings for a three-year cycle. The readings for each Sunday and holy day - typically one each from the Old Testament, Epistles, and Gospels - are meant for the weekly service of worship on the Lord's Day. It provides a systematic approach to the use of Scripture in worship. Its widespread use by United Methodists as well as other Christians testifies to its value in helping congregations hear the whole message of Scripture.
